Things to do in Devon
There is plenty to do out and about in the surrounding areas of Clyst St Lawrence. The village of Clyst Hydon is just a few minutes away. Clyst Hydon has an excellent pub and an outdoor swimming pool open during the summer.
Eating and drinking
Devon is lucky to have a lot of great pubs and cafes, where you can enjoy a relaxed lunch or dinner. Our closest pub, just a few minutes down the road is The Five Bells. The pub is a pleasant walk of about 1 mile down the lanes, however transport to and from the pub can be arranged. Slightly further afield in Broadclyst, we have the The Red Lion. Cullompton boasts The Bakehouse which is open some evenings as well as during the day.
Walks & Cycling
There are some great local walks and cycle routes in Devon. Ashclyst Forest is almost on our doorstep and the National Trust Killerton Estate is just three miles away. Haldon Forest Park is a great place for a wander or a cycle ride and has kids activities throughout the year. If you want to make a day of it, Dartmoor is an hour away and you can find walks and trails on the GPS routes site.
Devon has two stunning, but very different, coastlines. East Devon has the lovely seaside towns of Exmouth, boasting a large sandy beach on the Exe estuary and Sidmouth, a pebbly beach with a promenade. Sidmouth also hosts an annual Folk Week the first week in August.
North Devon's beaches are rugged, but offer surfing and watersports.
We have a few lovely attractions for children located nearby. Diggerland theme park is ideal for children who love diggers - they are able to drive many models and go on digger rides! It is located around 25 minutes drive away.
The Bear Trail, an obstacle course style attraction, is just 10 minutes drive - prepare for children (and adults) to get muddy!
Some of our visitors like to go to Yarak Birds of Prey Centre, where you can handle owls and falcons. It is 10 minutes drive from the B&B. Booking is required for this attraction.
Wild Wood Escot is a lovely place to go for the day, especially if you have children. Just 15 minutes drive, the woodlands are home to wild boar, wolves and lynxes as well as other animals. Go along to their otter feedings and red squirrel talks and finish the day with a cake in their tea room. For rainy days there is an indoor play barn where the kids can let off steam!
Otter Nurseries garden centre is always popular with our guests. With extensive plants and a great cafe, it's a lovely place to spend a few hours.
